age. 30. FUCKIN' COMPOUND GRANDDAD
before the infection. Marco went to school with one goal - becoming a teacher. He had originally envisioned himself as a high school English teacher, but life gave him a different path. He was also a huge partier in college, and kissed more than his fair share of people before he mellowed out.
He was a schoolteacher at an elementary school. A total bachelor, was a bit of a neat freak, had a fondness for foreign death metal music. His mother lived a couple states away, and always harassed him about getting married. He had a dog. He went to the gym to keep in shape to keep up with his students, but he didn't bodybuild.
after the infection. He was with his students, and got most of them out of the school and to their families. He lost some of them; it weighs heavy on his mind. He made a decison to try and get to his mother's house a few states over, but he never made it very far. He met up with Jean at some point, and they got their asses saved by Bertolt and Reiner. The four stuck it out together. Then they found the compound.
role within the compound. Counselor. Marco's good at listening and even better at soothing bruised egos. He'd have to be. Also, official Jean-wrangler. He's also unofficially compound barber.
survival pros. Peace keeper, a good shot with a shotgun (thanks to Reiner), better at scavenging (thanks to Sasha). Wicked swing with a bat, decent right hook. Can be a quiet motherfucker.
survival cons. He wasn't a fighter beforehand, so while people occasionally look to him to lead he's definitely not a leader. He's still skittish around guns, and he's not very fast. Eavesdrops shamelessly.
Sleeps with everyone.extra. Punched Jean when Jean called his kids canon fodder. Secret barber skills. May lose his arm at some point.

age. 22
before the infection. From Owsley County, Kentucky--one of the poorest counties in the country--she worked retail at a mom & pop drugstore to make ends meet. She was homeschooled and thus has no high school or college degree. Money was extremely tight and at some points, non-existent, so her parents taught her to live off the land, including how to hunt and fish and identify plants, fruit, and leaves safe for eating and/or medical use. Her mother died when she was young, her father's life status is currently unknown and she had no siblings or spouse.
after the infection. Sasha left Owsley on foot when the breakout occurred. She went out with her father to find food and supplies to weather out what they thought would be a temporary situation, but they got separated by a hoard of infected looking for dinner and she hasn't seen him since. She hopes he's still alive and she can go back home to Kentucky to find him. Walking along the roads, trying to find anybody unaffected to figure out what happened and where was the safest place to go, she survived by sleeping in trees and abandoned cars, using her taught skills until she came upon the compound where she is happy to stay, taking academic lessons from Marco during her downtime.
role within the compound. Hunter/Gatherer/Cook. Sasha is excellent at hunting and has fantastic hearing so she tends to be the brave soul who goes find wild game and regular useful supplies. She's the one who cleans, skins, and cooks the kills, though she has no problem teaching others how to do this too.
survival pros. Hunting, scavenging, basic first aid, speedy on her feet, can give a person a nasty elbow to the face. Knows how to use a gun, crossbow, and regular bow and arrow. Has a hunger to learn bookwise.
Not a virgin.survival cons. Raised in a small town, Sasha is not socially conditioned like someone from a bigger city. She may seem a little strange with her missing the obvious point and has a tendency to say dumb things. Also, she hoards food. She has a stash she keeps secret from the rest of the compound because she is always hungry and worries about never having enough to eat again. This may or may not cause tension in the compound if it's discovered. Her fingers are very, very, very sticky.
extra. Cannot drive worth a lick. Also suffers from chronic gas. Puts on a fake accent to cover up her sometimes unintelligible country accent; only drops it around
Conniepeople she is fully comfortable with or if you piss her off to the extreme. Is secretly Boomhauer.no subject
age. nineteen
before the infection. connie had plans to join the military once he finished high school (and he came out nearly the top of his class, which no one saw coming), but one of his siblings got a broken arm and he decided to stay behind for an extra year to help work off the medical expenses around that, doing a bunch of odd jobs because he couldn't really nail down a single one.
after the infection. he'd been a part of a small town all his life, and when the infections hit, it spread like wildfire and basically took everyone overnight. connie managed to climb onto the roof of the garage with some of his dad's tools that he'd been borrowing for work as his only means of defending himself, and had to fight his way out of town with them. his mother's still locked in his parents bedroom, which connie boarded up with hopes that he could fix her, one day. he wandered for a while, alone, getting far from home and taking about eight months to find the compound.
role within the compound. he's pretty new doesn't really have a set role, but he sometimes ventures out for a few days and finds supplies to bring back.
survival pros. he's quick and can usually weave through a slower crowd of zombies without getting so much as his clothing snagged. he can also climb like a little monkey boy. he's good at drawing attention away from other people and being a distraction while others take out zombies, and going through and double tapping in the aftermath.
survival cons. he's not used to working in a group after all the time he'd been wandering alone. he'll be a little loud at inappropriate times and isn't the best at understanding or following the plans others come up with.
extra. he's probably never once strictly had an actual weapon. just blunt things he's grabbed and made do with. he's got a small collection of various goodies he's found in his time on the road. (also i may decide his hair might not have received a single cut in the time he was wandering, so. he keeps it tied back most of the time, though he doesn't have much of a problem with it being in his face, oddly enough)

age. mid 20's or so
before the infection. a child gymnast, an orphan in her teens - adopted by her family's neighbors, the jaegers. eren saved her from the terrible men who killed her parents at about 15 and they became something different together, soaked in the blood of murderers; they became killers then. a graceful and ruthless lacrosse player in highschool, she went to college as a herbologist and earned her degree. in the meantime she was a prize-fighing martial artist. she would go on to be a contracted assassin alongside eren, selective in her commissions to only include scum of the earth. ( ooc; until he shows up, I say levi was their boss/mentor/dispatcher ). eren and she decided they needed to stay proactive, ridding the world of its ugliness one contract at a time, without the regulation of their military. they were considered upstart snot-nosed brats who still needed to learn selectivity was not necessarily lucrative. no doubt that's why the siblings took up second jobs in the meantime - eren as a mechanic and mikasa working retail, usually in the floral department, spritzing plants with a deadpan expression.
after the infection. mr. jaegar disappeared as a part of his secret doctor scientist job. mikasa and eren were out traveling the world and killing bad guys when the outbreak began. mrs. jaeger was devoured by zombies as they made it home to try to save her. the two of them survived like they always had.
role within the compound. infantry, for the most part. mikasa is fearless and deadly with any weapon she's given, although she's the most beautiful with a sword. she acts as exterminator towards all walkers outside the compound. bodyguard for anyone outside of it, notably Sasha, their food procurer.
survival pros. mikasa doesn't sweat the small stuff. she's big picture. she can kill dozens of walkers without breaking a sweat. with a sword. while only just starting her professional career before the infection, she's proved to be a formidable killer on the field. she knows how to concentrate missions down to what's most important in terms of resources or objectives, and can be a leader if need be.
survival cons. she's dedicated to eren jaeger - everyone else falls short of him in the hierarchy of importance to her. she's also quite a bit emotionally callous - she's not very empathetic and she treats conflict as a triage, with eren's safety being her top priority and her own being second. still, she'll save who she can.
extra. on her off time, she likes to grow things or work out. she's a terrible dancer.

age. 24
before the infection. Born and raised in Evanston, Illinois (the affluent, wealthy first suburb to the north of Chicago proper), Jean attended Northwestern University and got a degree in business and was working on his MBA. He came from a very driven, materialistic family with a huge focus on success, and he was an intense "eyes on the prize" kind of guy. He'd scored a sweet internship with a Fortune 500 company down in the Loop (the very middle of Chicago), and was busy glad-handing, networking, and anticipating his graduation in a few weeks when the outbreak happened. He just happened to be standing in line at a Starbucks when the shit when down in Chi-town, and had to fight his way out of the city.
after the infection. Getting out of a densely populated urban area was an absolute nightmare, one Jean doesn't like to talk about. After getting out of the city--largely by being ruthlessly pragmatic and using the deaths of other people to his advantage to get away from the walkers--he went up to Evanston to try and find his family, only to find his childhood home sacked and burned, and no sign of his parents. He wandered for awhile after that, until he met up with Marco and then eventually Reiner and Bertolt, and found the compound.
role within the compound. Unfortunately, everything Jean is good at doesn't have much of a place in the zombie apocalypse, save two things: thanks to fencing and polo lessons as a kid, he can use a sword and knows how to handle horses. Somehow, this has led to him being the unofficial vet, whenever a wounded animal they decide not to eat wanders in, and he sometimes gives swordplay lessons to anyone interested. Giving up the world that was is harder for Jean that he likes to admit, and he clings to certain things that remind him of what he used to be. He wears dress shirts whenever he can find them, and refuses to take off the broken watch that his mom gave him for his college graduation.
survival pros. Jean knows cities. He grew up roaming all over Chicago, and is surprisingly adept at navigating urban environments and figuring out how to get through them without getting everyone killed. He also puts his (shameful) minor in art to use by drawing maps. He's arguably one of the most educated in the group and knows all kinds of now completely useless facts that sometimes turn out to have some relevance to the situation at hand. Finally, he got out of Chicago on his own using a golf club and a sixteenth century rapier he liberated from the Art Institute Chicago, so he's not bad at crowd control when a horde of walkers descends.
survival cons. He misses the way things used to be a lot, and all his bluster and aggression hides a scared little kid who really just wants to go home. He had to do some horrible things to get out of the city, and is haunted by nightmares. He sucks with guns and refuses to use them. While he comes into his own in cityscapes, he has no idea how things in the country work, and hates to admit that wide open spaces kind of freak him out.
Totally a virgin and in the closet about his bisexuality.extra. Will probably wear a power tie around his forehead, Rambo-style, until someone smarter points out that a walker could totally grab that.

age. Late twenties. Twenty-seven? ish?
before the infection. Reiner hails from a tiny, dead end village, the sort you only leave in a box or in combat boots. And he choose the later. As soon as he was capable, he enlisted along with Bertolt and Berwick and he took to army life like a duck to water. After several years in the forces, the three of them made it into the special forces. Several months before the public outbreak, they were reassigned to guard duty to an isolated military complex, rumored to be the place to be for military experiments. They had no idea what was going on inside until the dead started pouring out. The initial outbreak took them completely unprepared, and the troops stationed there proved incapable of containing the infection. Many died, Berwick included. He's would end up giving his life to save Reiner.
After the failure of containing the initial outbreak, the military tried to suppress it without letting the public know what was going on, occasionally resorting to brutal and illegal practices. It would prove to be ineffective. By the time the public realized what was going on, the dead were everywhere and gaining in number. Public outrage turned to the military which ended up disbanded, but not after some gruesome scenes of angry, frightened groups of survivors attacking and killing lone soldiers.
after the infection. Once the army was disbanded, Reiner ended up trying to find a safe haven together with Bertolt (and possibly Annie). Knowing exactly the hatred of the military, they tried to hack it on their own, until finding Jean and Marco. Unable to abandon those two to their inevitable ends, they took them along, eventually finding and joining the compound after some very intense personal debate on the subject. For now, they have agreed to keep their past involvement in the original outbreak very much secret, knowing that facing the anger of the people inside of the compound could be as bad, or worse, as facing the zombies outside.
role within the compound. Team dad. Can't keep him out of a scavenging party, he's gotta be in the action when it is dangerous. Occasionally takes off shirt to move around heavy things. Really team mom.
survival pros. Reiner is former special ops, so he is skilled with guns, hand to hand combat and first aid. He might not be the quickest guy around, but he's got the kind of stamina that'll keep him well ahead of a group of walkers for hours. Physically well trained and strong enough to be a real asset in moving around heavy equipment, carrying people, and smashing zombie faces in. The army imparted him with enough skills that surviving the zombie apocalypse is a very real possibility.
surviving the guilt thosurvival cons. He and Bertolt were involved in the initial outbreak and cover up of the zombie situation, a fact they are obviously keeping secret. He fears anyone figuring out what they have done and hates himself for it. In addition, Reiner has a tendency to internalize all his guilt and trauma, while not really dealing with, leading to a situation were he will break mentally long before he breaks physically. Survivor's guilt pushes him to try and always be in the most dangerous position himself before asking anyone else to do it. Not always a good thing.
extra. You got a hole in your shirt, Reiner will sew that shit up for you. Also very homo.

age. ~26
before the infection. Hailing from the same village as Bertolt and Berwick, he followed their footsteps and joined the military as soon as he could (even if he considered himself to be a coward). While he never felt the safest on the front lines, he was right at home in the brush with a rifle watching over his childhood friends. After he was moved to guard duty, he was finally able to relax a little. ...At least until the dead started appearing from the complex they were ordered to guard.
When Berwick was bitten and subsequently infected in their attempts to contain the outbreak, Bertolt had no choice but to spare both him and Reiner by putting him down himself, something that still haunts him to this very day.
After everything had started to fall apart with the outside world, Bertolt's main objective was to protect Reiner, no matter what. He refused to lose another friend.
after the infection. Once everything had 'settled', Bertolt more or less became Reiner's shadow. Before the outbreak he had been talkative and cheerful, but afterwards he became withdrawn, quiet, and fiercely protective in his own way. It was only around Reiner (and Annie) that Bertolt felt safe, and when they met Jean and Marco... Well, as long as he keeps his involvement with the military under wraps, they may have found people they could finally trust. If Reiner and Annie could trust them, then he could too.
Of course that doesn't mean Bertolt would give up if their secret was revealed. He may be a coward at heart, but he'd fight to his last breath if it meant protecting the people he loved from zombies and human alike.
role within the compound. Team Dad #2. On the rare occasion that he doesn't join Reiner on a scavenging party, Bertolt sticks close to the gate and keeps watch for survivors, zombies, and whatever wildlife that wanders too close to the compound. When he's not keeping watch, he's the guy who'll help with chores or just keep people company.
Reiner's bestfriendboyfriendwifehusbandlifepartner-thingsurvival pros. Being former military/special forces, Bertolt knows his way around a gun, hand-to-hand, and first aid. He's not as strong as Reiner, but he's fast and scary from a distance. Even if he's unarmed, he's still a force to be reckoned with. See, guys? Having a military background totally comes in handy during the apocalypse!
survival cons. ...Even if he was helping said military cover up the first outbreak. That's just a big fat secret he's keeping between himself, Reiner, Annie, and the late Berwick. He tends to go with the popular opinion of the group, even if he knows it could end badly. Just like Reiner, he's dealing with his own guilt - both from survivor's guilt and being the one to put Berwick down. He knew it was for the best - Berwick wouldn't have wanted to come back as a zombie, and he sure as hell couldn't make Reiner do it...
He'll take on as much guilt as he can for Reiner's sake, even if it hinders himself.
extra. "Secretly" played guitar in highschool, so he can provide a little bit of entertainment when things get dull around the compound if he has one. Almost as homo as Reiner. He gets really quiet and "goes to bed early" whenever people bring up What-If scenarios (i.e. 'If I get bit could you put me down', etc etc).
Loves cute and tacky things. He probably has the room he shares with Reiner at the compound decorated with the crapno subject
age. 30 (Marco isn't alone)
before the infection. Hailing from a family with strong military roots and the only daughter of a high level employee of a private security firm with a notorious reputation, Annie was raised with the expectation that she'd follow a similar path. It helped, of course, that she was put on the rails for it and combat trained from a young age with expert skill in krav maga and marksmanship. At 18, she joined the Marines and served for 4 years, only once gaining rank above Lance Corporal before getting busted back down due to her utter inability to function as an NCO.
After her honorable discharge, she took a job as a contractor for the same company her father worked for and played "security consultant" in combat hotspots for several years. Though she didn't realize it until later, he had deliberately pulled some strings to assign her to a contract to support the security forces for an isolated research lab facility. Though she remained cold for the most part to her military counterparts, their shared experiences and isolation brought her closer to them than she'd ever been with anyone else.
And then it all went to hell.
after the infection. Early on, Annie legitimately seemed unmoved by the horrors, but this was just a facade. Brutally efficient, she did exactly as ordered and assisted in the cover up because that was her job and they were going to do this right, but her resolve started to fall apart right around the time it all went critical and her father seemingly disappeared entirely. When the military dissolved, she took off with Reiner and Bertolt before becoming separated from them.
Survived on her own for an unfortunately violent, dark period before eventually crossing paths with people from the compound. She may or may not have been planning on raiding the place when she realized just who had taken up residence. (Spoilers: she was.) She settles down because it's where Reiner and Bertolt happen to be.
role within the compound. Apparent compound slacker punctuated by bursts of alarming productivity and sheer badassery. Does exactly enough of day-to-day work to be considered pulling her own weight, though she is incredibly proactive where combat might be involved.
survival pros. Expert combatant and ridiculously physically proficient. Doesn't hesitate in a fight and has significant tactical experience. Knows how to rig traps, IEDs, and is experienced in urban warfare. Legitimately the chick you want between you and the zombies when things go south.
survival cons. Poor communicator that has difficulty in a team environment, known for her tendency to operate independently without warning other people. Chronic liar. Downplays her own capabilities compulsively. Slowly losing her grip as the horror of what she'd been a part of crushes her. Inevitably going to snap.
extra. Apparently does not understand how to make friends. Actually rather incredibly awkward. Claims she was a security guard and sort of isn't lying. Eventually going to break down laughing hysterically one day.

age. mid 20's, same age as Mikasa
before the infection. An apparently normal, if temperamental, college dropout, Eren's history is much darker than most know. His neighbors, the Ackermans, close family friends to the Jaegers, were slain in their home. Only Mikasa survived, and only because Eren appeared just in time with knife in hand and anger in his heart. Killing instinct was awoken in the teens, a secret shared only with his now adoptive-sister. He graduated high school, but found that college wasn't for him. He entered trade school and became a mechanic, specializing in vehicle engines. Alongside Mikasa, he became a contracted assassin, destroying wickedness in the world just as he had all those years ago. But their pickiness about targets ensures that their killer for hire natures don't pay all the bills. While Mikasa works as a florist, Eren puts his trade school to use in an auto-body shop.
after the infection. Dr. Jaeger, his father, vanished into the ether to work on top secret zombie stuff. Carla, his mother, was eaten by zombies while Mikasa and Eren watched. With renewed hatred in his heart, Eren swore to survive, and slay every zombie to save the remaining human race.
role within the compound. Eren joins Mikasa as a warrior. Extremely resourceful, he can use just about anything as a weapon and has made some crazy frankenstein weaponry out of spare parts. He likes his knives, his sword, and his home-made crossbow the most; quiet, quick, and deadly. He can also put his mechanic skills to use to repair vehicles for use, as well as other machinery.
survival pros. Eren is an accomplished killer and has no moral problems with killing zombies. Even if he's holding out for a possible cure, he's not going to let the remaining humans die in the meantime. Fiercely devoted to his friends. Sharp instincts, and good in the field. Really good at dramatic speeches.
survival cons. ... But god he is dumb as a sack of bricks. Book smarts aren't really necessary in the zombie apocalypse, but Eren doesn't have a whole lot of common sense, either. Has a tendency to be pigheaded and stubborn, and to let his anger get the better of him. Likes to run off and do stupid things without thinking it through.
extra. Knows a bunch of housewifey skills, such as knitting, sewing, and cooking. Yells about zombies in his sleep. Has stupid peach fuzz and long hair in a ponytail.
