There had usually always been something to do at the compound at first. Repairs, fortifications, the long project of hooking up the showers again (not heated, but they at least had the running water), the scavenging trips to get basic needs.
The longer they stayed here, though, the less things there were to do. Boredom started to become a serious threat. Patrols always took up someone's time, and there were still repairs to do, pipes to check up on, supplies to check (though they'd all discovered a lot of food could last well past supposed expiration dates).
Sasha had already done her hunting trip though, and Jean, Annie and Reiner had made a trip into the city that had lasted almost a day. What they brought back was useful, but there was one indulgence that was new. They'd managed to find a case of beer.
Marco would have bet a bowl of Sasha's next stew it was Reiner who found it. He seemed the type.
Nobody had touched it for a couple days, because it really was an indulgence. Who could afford to be drunk if something bad happened? And Marco didn't really want to let Connie at it, because who could afford a case of alcohol poisoning?
Still, when Reiner and Bertolt officially didn't have patrol duty - Eren, Mikasa and Annie had that well in hand - Marco had figured it couldn't hurt to join them when he was invited. Jean had already made his thoughts on the brand of beer well known, so it wasn't like he was coming along.
It was alcohol. Marco was pretty sure he'd drunk worse during his college days, and they were the epitome of beggars can't be choosers. It'd been a while since he'd done anything to really unwind, aside from trying to read or knit.
Which was how, a couple hours later, he ended up laughing at something Reiner had said while listing against Bertolt's side. They'd decimated a good portion of the alcohol, despite it being warm and bottom shelf, and his laughter trailed off into a sigh.
He was definitely tipsy. Possibly edging into drunk, but it wasn't a bad thing. He was with strong people who were good at protecting him. Never mind that they were tipsy too.
"Bertlolt, you're warm." That was punctuated with Marco practically rubbing his cheek on Bert's shoulder like a cat. A cat in heat, possibly. God, he forgot how drinking made him rare to go. Not that he really needed the alcohol to help with that. It'd been a while.
After a moment, reaching out to touch Reiner's arm, "Though you're warm too." Ever the teacher. Can't leave Reiner out of the compliments!

"Wanna ride me?" His eyes flick away from Marco's face to meet Bertolt's over his shoulder. "I bet Bert wouldn't mind getting his mouth on you while you do. If you want."
